Program:
Sounds Genius: Maurice Ravel's String Quartet in F Major
Jeremy Cavaterra: Nemeton for Oboe Quintet (world premiere)
A jewel of the string quartet repertoire sets the stage for a world premiere composed by Jeremy Cavaterra.
"Sounds Genius" (formerly Masterpiece Discovery) is perfectly summed up by Salastina's motto "To know great music is to love great music." Our trademark concert format is not a lecture. It's no dry analysis. We share how musical works of human genius throw open the doors of our hearts, connecting us to the beauty of life and human potential. We'll explore Ravel's life and demonstrate how this luminous work is knit together.
For his piece "Nemeton", Jeremy Cavaterra found inspiration deep in the lore of his ancestral home town of Nemi, outside of Rome, Italy. Cavaterra masterfully uses the combination of oboe and string quartet to evoke the mysterious glades that dotted ancient forests. We are thrilled to have the principal of the Pacific Symphony, Jessica Pearlman Fields, as our guest oboist for this premiere.
