Philip White: Trio for Flute, Viola, and Harp
Guest Harpist Cristina Montes Mateo joins Salastina's Resident Flutist Benjamin Smolen and Resident Violist Meredith Crawford for this world-premiere recording of Philip White's ethereal Trio for Flute, Viola, and Harp.
Philip is a composer for the screen and stage. He wrote music for all 15 seasons of the CW's SUPERNATURAL. He's also written for THE BACHELOR, though this piece is more romantic.
HyeJin Kim: Miroirs
On her debut solo album, Miroirs, Salastina’s Resident Pianist HyeJin Kim embarks on a journey of self-reflection through music. Solo-piano jewels by Gershwin, Ravel, and Granados provide a deliberately intimate experience in which HyeJin shares career-shaping works that helped define her as a musician—and as a person. Her delicacy, precision, and passion for the music come through in each piece, which as a whole crafts a narrative that interweaves the concepts of art, life, and belonging.
Tarik O’Regan: All Things Common
Salastina and the Pacific Chorale recorded a stunning album of works by Tarik O’Regan.
Mieczysław Weinberg: flute works
When we featured our Resident Flutist Ben Smolen and the music of Weinberg on our Happy Hour, we knew we had to record the works he performed. The music was incredible, and Ben's performances were stunning. However, no recordings of these works exist in the configuration in which we performed them. We did something about that.
The generous support of Ann Horton and Raulee Marcus made this album possible.
Derrick Skye: This Place
Salastina was honored to contribute the world premiere recording of As I Heard When I Was Young, written and premiered by Salastina, to Derrick’s latest album. Other tracks include performances by violinist Blake Pouliot, Cantori NY, and harpist Jacqueline Marshall.
Salastina’s recording of this work was made possible thanks to the generosity of June and Simon Li.
Yoshika Masuda and HyeJin Kim: Hidden Flame
Salastina’s Resident Cellist Yoshika (“Yoshi”) Masuda makes his recording debut with Hidden Flame, an album containing music by Amy Beach, Clara Schumann, Rita Strohl, Nadia Boulanger, Maria Theresia von Paradis, and a world-premiere by Reena Esmail. Yoshi is joined by Salastina’s Resident Pianist HyeJin Kim.
Philip White: fragile certain songs
This album features music by California-based composers Philip White and Jeremy Cavaterra for voice and chamber ensemble with text from 20th-century poets. Philip White’s fragile certain songs sets texts from E.E. Cummings for mezzo-soprano, tenor, and piano quintet, while Jeremy Cavaterra’s Three Neruda Arias sets poems by Chilean poet Pablo Neruda for soprano, string quintet, winds, and harp.
Derrick Skye: American Mirror
Salastina is proud to have made the world premiere recording of American Mirror, a deeply moving string quartet Derrick Skye wrote for Salastina — which has now been performed around the country by countless fine quartets. The piece places rhythmic and melodic foundations from West and North Africa, India, Eastern Europe, and Appalachia seamlessly within the realm of modern American classical music. In doing so, it proposes that diverse musical cultures can become even more beautiful when they exist and collaborate together.
Saili Oak: Beyond
Renowned for her work in the Indian/Western Classical music crossover space, award winning vocalist Sail Oak performs compositions of Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande with Salastina.
