Juan-Salvador Carrasco
Composer and cellist
As a Los Angeles Orchestra Fellow, Juan-Salvador performs in LACO (Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra), mentors the young talents at ICYOLA (Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles), and studies with Ralph Kirshbaum at USC. Previous cello professors include Hans Jorgen Jensen, Ronald Leonard, and Eleonore Schoenfeld. An avid chamber musician, Juan-Salvador has performed with the likes of Anthony McGill, Philip Setzer (Emerson Quartet violinist), and Robert Chen (Chicago Symphony Concertmaster). Juan-Salvador was awarded First Prize at USC Thornton’s 2019 Solo Bach Competition and was a semi-finalist in the Sphinx Competition. Juan-Salvador has performed the Schumann, Dvorak, Elgar, Haydn C Major, Saint-Saëns, and Vivaldi Double Cello Concertos with various orchestras in the U.S. and Mexico. Most recently, Juan-Salvador performed the cello part of Urban Legends, a concerto for string quartet and orchestra, in Walt Disney Concert Hall. During the summer, Juan-Salvador has attended Heifetz A/K Chamber Seminar, Bowdoin International Music Festival, London Master Classes, PyeongChang Music Festival, and Perlman Music Program.
